Google launches series of cross-platform features for fans to follow FIFA World Cup

Google is rolling out a series of updates across platforms to make it easier for fans to follow the FIFA World Cup from November 20. These features include daily highlight videos from TV networks, customized notifications, a section on Google TV and a multiplayer game.

As with any sport, you can search with phrases like “FIFA World Cup” or “World Cup”, Google will give you the latest scores for the match, and you can subscribe to event notifications by clicking the bell icon. Additionally, fans can subscribe to individual team alerts under the notifications menu. The scores for these World Cup football matches will also show real-time statistics and a graph of the probability of winning.

If users want to follow individual games, but don’t want to search for updates every time, they can pin the scores to their home screen. To do this, they can click on the “Pin Live Score” option in the score pane of an upcoming game in progress. It’s worth noting that these features are also available for other tournaments and sports.

Google has partnered with FIFA+ and official broadcasters, including BeIN Sports, BBC, ZDF and others, to display daily video recaps in the matches section. So if you miss some key moments, you can easily catch up on them.

The search giant will soon add the ability to rate players based on how users think they are doing in the game. They can also compare these scores with other players.

Google usually adds a small browser-based game for such big events, and the World Cup is no exception. Once the lineup is set for a real-life game, fans can choose a team and try to score as many goals as possible in the game. The scores of players around the world will be added to the team’s total score, which will also be seen when playing the game.

To boost business for store merchants, the company is also adding a new tab for merchants to help users discover where World Cup matches are being played. When you search for “where to watch the World Cup near me,” you’ll see a “World Cup Now Playing” tag in your bar and restaurant listings in Search and Maps. The label will be rolled out before the World Cup, when merchants can apply.

YouTube TV subscribers will be able to watch the World Cup on FOX and FS1 with in-game features like live highlights, stats and scores. If they subscribe to the 4K Plus add-on, they can also stream these games in Ultra HD. Google TV will show live matches in the “For You” tab and will add a new row showing World Cup content from partners including FIFA+, ITV, Peacock, Telemundo and ViX.
