Users often complain that Chrome takes up too much memory, and Google introduced the Memory Saver feature to Chrome in mid-February, which freezes inactive tabs to save memory.
Now a new chromium Gerrit commit shows that Google is expanding the feature, and Chrome’s Hover Cards feature will soon be able to show how much memory resources are being used by the current tab. When the user places the cursor over a tab, it will show memory usage.
Previously, to see memory usage data for each tab, you could press Shift + Esc (or click… > More Tools > Task Manager) to open Chrome’s own Task Manager, which would show network and CPU consumption for each tab, but it was easier to hover the cursor over the tab.
Since the feature is still in beta, it’s unclear when it will be officially launched.
