Google challenges Indian antitrust agency fine, says it favours Amazon

According to Reuters, Google believes that the Indian antitrust agency is biased in favour of Amazon in the Android system investigation, and has filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of India to challenge the penalty for its abuse of Android market positioning.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) recently asked Google to change its business model, claiming that Google blocked Amazon from developing Fire OS.

Google stated in a lawsuit submitted to the Supreme Court of India that CCI listened to Amazon and imposed a fine on Google without reviewing the facts. The IT House translation is as follows:

  • The commercial failure of Fire OS in the global market was caused by poor user experience, and even the Fire Phone was not launched in the Indian market.
  • CCI’s claim that Amazon’s Fire OS failure was blamed on Google’s agreement is patently inappropriate.

The CCI earlier concluded that Google’s restrictions “reduce the ability and motivation of device makers to develop and sell Android personnel,” which is not in the interest of consumers.

Amazon believes that the company needs a lot of resources and man-hours to create Fire OS, and Google restricts its development; Google believes that it has not abused its market position and should not pay the fine.
