According to reports from PhoneArena, 9to5Google and other foreign media from July 20 to 23, in the latest Google App on Android (version number 14.29), part of the code shows that the built-in “Google Assistant” will add a web page summary function based on generative AI.
According to foreign media tests, when the mobile phone opens the tab of Chrome browser or other browsers (provided that Chrome technical support is required), and then calls out Google Assistant, a new “Summarize” button will appear on the interface, which is intended to summarize the content of the current web page. However, this function is not available for use at this stage. Foreign media tests found that after clicking this button, only a prompt box of “An error occurred, please try again in a few minutes” will pop up.
Unfortunately, there is still limited information about the “Web Summary”, such as when it will be officially launched is still unknown. However, this new feature based on generative AI is likely to once again become exclusive to Google’s own Pixel series of phones, tablets and other devices.
According to previous reports, Google is working hard to improve the capabilities of its chat robot Bard in the fierce competition with OpenAI. In mid-July, Google added add-ons to Bard such as flight search, hotel reservations, map services, YouTube, and more. But they are only released, and the specific functions have not yet taken effect.
On July 12 this year, another product from Google, NotebookLM, which has a similar function to Google Assistant’s “web page summary”, launched a small-scale test. The official said that it can provide summaries or “create brand new ideas” for files uploaded by users.
