Jeff Dean said that Google is the first major company to release and implement AI principles and that Google AI is now delivering results in three transformative areas.
First, AI is empowering 1,000 languages. Previously, Google announced the 1,000 Languages Initiative, which promises to build an AI model that supports 1,000 of the most commonly spoken languages. At the same time, by working closely with researchers and organizations in Africa, Google has recently announced the input of speech for nine additional African languages on Gboard to create and publish data.
Second, AI models allow for more diverse artistic expression. imagen is a diffusion model for video sequences; Phenaki is a model for text cue sequences that can be generated into long and coherent videos, and for the first time, Google shared a super-resolution video generated by AI technology. Meanwhile, outside of 2D images, text to 3D is now a reality.
Third, using AI technology to address climate change and health challenges, Google introduced the Wildfire Tracker system, which has been launched in the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Australia, and has touched more than 7 million displays in Google Search and Maps since July, effectively helping users and firefighters understand the fire situation.
In another extreme climate hazard, flooding, Google has announced the expansion of its flood prediction system to cover more countries in South America, sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
Meanwhile, Google’s research community is currently investigating how AI can be used to help read and analyze the output of low-cost ultrasound devices to help parents-to-be in resource-poor areas identify problems early in pregnancy. In addition, the Google Health team is currently exploring how AI can be used to allow users to check their breathing and heart rate right from their phones.
