Google Android Auto’s interface UI Beta released: UI elements and controls are bigger and easier to control

In May of this year, Google showed off a major overhaul of the Android Auto interface UI. The design overhaul was originally scheduled for a summer release but has apparently been delayed. Now Android Auto’s new UI is being pushed out to public beta users.

The new Android Auto interface is sleeker and cleaner, with larger UI elements and controls. Google’s goal was to make it more readable and to make the controls easier to reach. Split screen is now more effective.

Here are some of the major changes to Android Auto

In the new dashboard, maps will now be closer to the driver with improved size/accessibility.

The dashboard media cards have a new look and can now be dynamically scaled up and down.

It is now possible to have the map fill the entire Android Auto area, giving users more options to pick the layout on the larger screen.

There’s a new App Dock that makes it easy to switch between the nearest apps with just one tap.

More parts of the system have been updated with Material You design and modernized UI components and layouts.

Music and media recommendations from Google Assistant are now accessible with a single swipe of the media card on the dashboard.

Old status icons and Notification Center ringtones have been merged into easy-to-understand, touchable areas that include the number of unread messages.
