The GNOME project team released the GNOME 44.1 desktop environment version today, which is the first maintenance version update of the branch.
This maintenance update is more than a month away from the release of GNOME 44 “Kuala Lumpur”. Some titles have been added to the Background Apps menu, the “Power Mode” name has been unified in Quick Settings, and the names of Wi-Fi accessibility features have been improved. Fixed visual issues with bluetooth menu etc.
This update also improves the light theme, fixes an issue with mouse pointers in window screenshots, improves support for transparent colors in symbol SVG files, fixes screenshot logging in recent projects, and fixes GNOME when version verification changes A reload of the extension, and improved keyboard navigation of menus.
GNOME 44.1 also improves the Nautilus (files) file manager, adjusts style colors in view items, flips switches correctly, shows custom flags in extensions, and supports decompression of .tar.zst and .zstd archives.
