Today, IDC reported that preliminary results from the Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker show that global shipments of traditional PCs fell 15.3 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2022, totaling 71.3 million units.
This is the second consecutive quarterly decline in shipments, following two years of growth. Traditional PCs include desktops, notebooks and workstations, and do not include tablets or x86 servers.
The report notes that despite the recent decline and weakening in demand, total PC sales remain largely in line with the beginning of the outbreak – 74.3 million units in the second quarter of 2020, still well above pre-outbreak levels in 2020.

The top five global PC market shares in the second quarter of 2022 were Lenovo (24.6 percent), HP (18.9 percent), Dell (18.5 percent), Acer (6.9 percent) and Apple (6.7 percent).
IDC said that in terms of the top five suppliers in the global PC market, while the top three rankings remained unchanged, Apple dropped into fifth place, tied with Asus, mainly due to a drop in production during the quarter; Apple is expected to increase production in the second half of the year as supply factors are eased. In this period, Acer ranked fourth.
