July 15 news, Tesla since the end of 2021 in Berlin, Germany super factory for trial production, German regulators recently approved Tesla can sell these “test phase” production of thousands of Model Y electric SUV. The super factory has officially been put into operation. But until then, Tesla has been producing the Model Y electric car on a trial basis.
Tesla first received permission to produce smaller-scale test production runs. Since January of this year, Tesla has been granted permission to produce 2,000 Model Y bodies on a trial basis. The environmental office of the German state of Brandenburg recently gave Tesla permission to sell these Model Ys.
Tesla reportedly applied for permission to sell these electric cars last month and received approval. Some in Germany believe that Tesla’s move violates the pilot production permit requirements, but Thomas Frey of the German State Environmental Office in Brandenburg explained, “Tesla is free to dispose of the bodies built during the testing of the plant’s operational capacity and to sell these cars if they are suitable for sale. “
Tesla did not list in the application how many Model Y electric cars were produced during the testing phase it plans to deliver to customers.
Although these electric cars were produced during the factory testing phase, they are fully marketable for sale as long as they can pass factory inspection and quality control.
Selling these electric cars will undoubtedly help Tesla. As Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently disclosed, Tesla is burning through billions of dollars before the new Tesla super factories in Berlin and Texas achieve mass production. And delivering electric cars produced in the test phase to customers will at least temporarily boost production at the Berlin super factory.
