Shilpan Amin, head of GM’s international division, said that GM plans to sell electric vehicles in Japan from next year.
According to Nikkei, the launch models will include the Cadillac Lyriq SUV, and there may also be an electric version of the Chevrolet lineup. In addition, GM is considering launching electric vehicles in more than 60 countries around the world.
GM will launch electric vehicles simultaneously in overseas markets such as Asia and Europe and will launch its own electric car dealership in Japan for the first time in 2023. In fact, it will also launch new cars in Europe, where it has already exited and will re-enter the market.
Since 2009, GM has scaled back most of its overseas operations in markets other than China and South America. However, with the improvement of profits, GM will inevitably challenge the recessionary market again, especially the wave of new energy vehicles has come.
In the first quarter of this year, GM sold 1,427,000 new vehicles worldwide. Down 18.2% year-on-year, China overtook North America to remain the largest sales market.
