General Motors launched a new car service “uServices”, aiming to provide developers with the necessary APIs to develop car apps and achieve API standardization.
According to reports, uServices is a unique API designed by General Motors for developers “interested in building scalable software that can run across multiple vehicles.” In addition, General Motors plans to promote uServices as part of the Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA) to accelerate innovation in connected vehicle systems.

Frank Ghenassia, executive chief architect of GM’s “software-defined vehicle”, said that GM hopes to accelerate the development of the ecosystem by sharing existing production technology and integrating third-party software at lower engineering costs.
General Motors announced earlier this year that it would abandon Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in future electric vehicles. It said that the experience provided by the two is limited and cannot surpass the connection between phones and cars.
In April this year, General Motors announced the launch of the open source software protocol uProtocol, and invited other automakers and developers to jointly improve automotive software. General Motors also joined the Eclipse Foundation, “the world’s largest open source software organization.”
It was previously reported that Tesla is also expected to take similar measures to open third-party apps. According to Tesla’s latest API document, General Motors has also joined the Eclipse Foundation, “the world’s largest open source software organization.”
