GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card users sue Nvidia over 16Pin power cable burn-in issue

GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card was recently exposed to a number of burn-in incidents with the 16Pin power cable, and now one user has sued Nvidia.

The user, recently filed a class action lawsuit against NVIDIA over a burned 16Pin power cable. The lawsuit alleges that Genova is suing NVIDIA for unjust enrichment, breach of warranty, fraud and violations of New York’s general business law.

The lawsuit, filed Nov. 11 in California federal court, claims that NVIDIA “marketed the RTX 4090 with defective and dangerous power cord plugs and sockets that rendered consumers’ cards inoperable and posed a serious electrical and fire hazard to each and every purchaser.” The user appears to be filing the class action lawsuit on behalf of itself and all purchasers of the GeForce RTX 4090.

The plaintiff reportedly purchased the GeForce RTX 4090 from Best Buy for $1,599.99. He was reportedly “experienced in installing computer components such as graphics cards” and installed the card according to best practices. After installation, the user later discovered that his 16-pin power cable had a burned and melted problem.

The lawsuit states, “Plaintiff and the Class members have been hit with a double whammy: a high price ($1,599 MSRP) for a dangerous product that should not have been sold in its current condition.”

According to foreign media statistics, there are at least 26 GeForce RTX 4090 users have reported encountering this problem of 16Pin power cable burn, and some have also damaged the socket on the graphics card.

NVIDIA is still investigating the issue of 16Pin power cable burn-in, and it recently said that it does not have any further details to share with the public, but the good news is that NVIDIA and its AIB partners have promised to provide quick returns for affected users.
