This is the first PCB picture of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition. With NVIDIA doing away with the AD104-based GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB, the significantly improved AD103-based RTX 4080 16 GB is now simply known as the RTX 4080.
The picture shows a piece of asymmetrical PCB shape to match the design of the Founders Edition (public version). The card draws power from a 16-pin ATX 12VHPWR connector and appears to use about 16-phase VRM. There are many blank VRM phase lines on the PCB, although there are only 8 memory chip pads to mate with the AD103 chip’s 256-bit wide GDDR6X memory interface.
The AD103 chip features a rectangular die and fiberglass substrate that appears to be the same size as previous-generation NVIDIA GPUs with a 256-bit wide memory interface, such as the GA104. The AD103 GPU is likely to be pin-compatible with the smaller AD104, at least in terms of board size; therefore, minimal PCB design R&D effort is required when designing the 12 GB and 16 GB variants of the RTX 4080.
We know the RTX 4080 12 GB is gone now, the AD104 will be at the heart of these SKUs with fewer shaders than the RTX 4080 12 GB, but the display output configuration is still the same as the RTX 4090, with three DisplayPort 1.4a, and one HDMI 2.1a.
NVIDIA is expected to launch the GeForce RTX 4080 on November 16 for $1199 (MSRP).
