Gartner predicts that the global PC market will begin to recover in 2023 Q4

After IDC released its global PC shipment report for the third quarter of 2023, another market research agency Gartner also released its PC shipment report for the quarter, believing that the PC market has experienced eight consecutive declines. After the quarterly decline, recovery is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Gartner reports that global PC shipments totaled 64.3 million units in the third quarter of 2023, a 9% decrease from the same period last year.

Gartner Chief Analyst Mikako Kitakawa has the following views: “There is evidence that the decline in the PC market has finally bottomed out. Although enterprise PC demand remains weak, seasonal demand in the education market boosted shipments in the third quarter. volume, offsetting some of the decline. Suppliers have also made continued progress in reducing PC inventory, and as long as holiday sales do not collapse, inventories are expected to return to normal by the end of 2023.”

Although Lenovo’s shipments fell again year-on-year, the decline slowed to single digits.

Meanwhile, HP was the only vendor to post year-over-year growth, with shipments increasing in all regions.

Dell reported its sixth consecutive quarter of declines in shipments, hurt by weak demand for enterprise PCs as it maintains a strong position in the market.

Apple’s shipments fell sharply from the same period last year, in part because its shipments increased significantly in Q3 2022 after supply disruptions caused by China’s blockade eased earlier in 2022. Q3 2023 was primarily driven by demand from students and educators, with shipments following seasonal trends.

Gartner expects the global PC market to grow 4.9% in 2024, with growth in both the business and consumer segments.
