Foxconn has appointed Michael Chiang as the new head of its iPhone assembly business, replacing Wang Charng-yang, the previous longtime head, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Foxconn declined to comment. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A number of factors have caused supply chain disruptions over the past few months, resulting in heavy production of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, with the latter being the most affected. At the height of the disruption, Apple issued a press release stating that iPhone 14 Pro was being “slowed down” and that they expected iPhone 14 Pro to ship within weeks, if not up to a month.
Earlier this year, after several weeks of low production, Foxconn’s Zhengzhou facility was back to 90 percent of its peak capacity, and Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro supply situation has eased considerably.
In addition, as is customary, Apple will launch the new iPhone 15 / Pro series this fall, and news that Hon Hai’s Shenzhen Guanlan plant is starting to enter the high-end iPhone 15 new machine pilot production introduction service (NPI), highlighting that this year’s new iPhone OEM, Hon Hai is still standing firm in the dominant position.
Foxconn’s parent company Hon Hai’s latest data shows that December 2022 revenue of 629.34 billion NTD (currently about 139.713 billion RMB), up 14.2% YoY and down 12.3% YoY, is still the third highest in the calendar year.
