Electric supercar manufacturer Rimac Automobili has numerous collaborative projects with other automakers, including supplying battery cells to other carmakers. According to Automotive News Europe, Rimac is developing its own 46mm battery cell.
The Tesla 4680 battery has a higher cell density, where “46” stands for a cell diameter of 46 millimeters and “80” stands for a cell height of 80 millimeters. According to Wasim Sarwar Dilov, head of research and advanced engineering at Rimac Technologies, the Rimac cells will not be limited to 80 millimeters, but will be available in different heights.
In addition, Rimac is working on a structural battery pack, of which Rimac’s 46 mm cell will be a part. To improve cell conversion efficiency, Rimac is working to make the cells more slender.
Dilov said Rimac is currently talking to three automakers for which Rimac will supply batteries for its new electric vehicles. It’s worth noting that while Porsche and Hyundai own minority stakes in Rimac, Rimac is free to supply batteries to other automakers. For example, Rimac currently has 12 separate projects underway with various automakers, including Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hybrid and Sweden’s Koenigsegg.
Rimac’s battery systems have high power and energy density and can be produced in high volume, according to the company’s official website. Commissioned by more than 10 global equipment manufacturers, Rimac has developed high-performance batteries for more than 10 years for more than 30 different projects.
Rimac Automobili was founded in Croatia in 2009 and has been developing advanced electric supercars ever since. The company’s first electric car, the Concept_One, was launched in 2016 and is considered to be one of the fastest production cars in the world.
In 2018, Rimac launched the Concept_Two, but the car has since been renamed the Nevera and, due to years of development and delays with the new crown epidemic, production of the car officially began this month.
