If there’s one new feature of the AirPods Pro 2 that’s getting the most attention, it’s the Adaptive Pass-through Mode, which reduces noisy ambient noise and makes everyday listening more comfortable through device-side processing technology. Not long ago, some users discovered that their first generation AirPods Pro/Max had the original pass-through mode switch changed to adaptive pass-through mode after upgrading the latest beta firmware, making many users look forward to Apple bringing the feature to older AirPods.
But unfortunately, Apple has poured cold water on these expectant users.
In the latest beta version of iOS 16.1 Beta 4, Apple removed the Adaptive Pass-through Mode switch from the initial AirPods Pro/Max and said it was simply a display bug.
At present, Apple has not publicly stated the reason why the initial generation of AirPods Pro/Max cannot use Adaptive Pass-through Mode, but from the official publicity of the feature, it may be related to the performance of the headphones.
According to the official propaganda, the implementation of Adaptive Pass-through Mode is based on the H2 chip equipped in AirPods Pro 2. This hardware-level difference undoubtedly limits the implementation of this feature on older devices.
