Asahi Linux, a group of organizations researching Linux for Apple Silicon macs, has previously successfully run on M1 MacBook Air laptops and has opened up downloads and installations of Asahi Linux. Now, the Asahi Linux version for M2 chip Macs is also here.
Asahi Linux has excitedly announced on its official blog platform that the latest version has support for Mac Studio, Bluetooth and M2 chip Macs.
First of all, the new version of Asahi Linux already supports Mac Studio, making up for the fact that the previous version did not support M1 Ultra chip hardware. It is reported that most of the hardware of Mac Studio is already working properly except for the front USB port and all USB-A ports.
Secondly, the new version of Asahi Linux already supports Bluetooth, which took a little more time to adapt because Apple switched to a custom PCIe interface that no other vendor uses, and now it works. However, since WiFi / Bluetooth coexistence is not yet properly configured, Bluetooth performance may be poor if connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network. So if you want to use Bluetooth, it is recommended to turn off WiFi or use a 5GHz network.
Last but not least, the new version of Asahi Linux already supports M2 chip Macs, currently USB, NVMe, battery stats/control, CPUfreq, WiFi, keyboard, touchpad, etc. are available, but it is still in the experimental stage, users need to enable expert mode in the Asahi Linux installer to install it.
There are still many problems in M2 chip Mac, such as the built-in keyboard does not work in U-Boot / GRUB, and only M2 MacBook Pro 13-inch has been officially tested and cannot be updated seamlessly, so you should brush in carefully.
In addition, Asahi Linux GPU support for Apple M1 Macs is on the way, but not yet in this version.
