First “4nm EUV” process Intel’s 14th generation Core adds AI unit

Intel will launch the 13-generation Core Raptor Lake at the end of this year, which is an improved version of the 12 Core, upgraded 8P + 16E architecture, up to 24 cores and 32 threads, and other planning changes are not significant, while the real architecture overhaul is the 14 generation Core Meteor Lake series next year.

The 14th generation Core will introduce the Intel 4 manufacturing process for the first time and support EUV lithography, although it is the original 7nm, Intel believes it is equivalent to the industry’s 4nm, and for the first time, the multi-chip integration package, CPU, core graphics, input and output, etc. are independent, and the manufacturing process is not the same.

In the core unit of the 14th generation Core, the latest Linux code shows that Intel will add a new AI unit, named VPU, which can further accelerate the performance of deep learning, AI artificial intelligence.

It is understood that the design of this VPU unit comes from Intel’s Movidius, the latter is an AI company acquired by Intel 6 years ago, when they created a revolutionary VPU architecture that requires only 1.5W of power to achieve 4TOPS of performance, with a very powerful energy efficiency ratio.

The specific performance of the VPU unit in the 14th generation Core is not yet easy to say, but more than 6 years have passed, AI performance will only increase significantly, the 14 generation Core in AI performance will undoubtedly be very good, performance skyrocketing is not running.

The rest depends on how well Intel plays the AI performance in the processor, such as the previously demonstrated XeSS game acceleration technology, if the 14 generations Core’s AI unit can run this, then the performance of the game will be similar to DLSS or FSR 2.0 like a miraculous effect.
