The upcoming Firefox 115 web browser will bring interesting changes to Linux users who will increase their productivity when completing daily tasks.
A new feature in Firefox 115 will allow middle-clicking on the new tab button to paste the contents of the clipboard, whether it’s a URL or plain text. So a middle mouse button click on the New Tab button will open whatever is in the clipboard, no matter where the content was copied from, which means it can be from any of your applications, additionally the copied text will work as expected Your default search provider opens.
In current Firefox browser versions, middle-clicking the “New Tab” button now opens a new tab just like when you left-clicked it, which was previously implemented in Chrome/Chromium web browsing available on the device.
This feature will be implemented in the Firefox 115 browser version, and it is currently being pushed by users of the Nightly (Note: alpha state) channel.
The feature will be enabled by default in Firefox 115, and users can turn it off by setting the browser.tabs.searchclipboardfor.middleclick option in about:config from true to false.
The Firefox 115 browser will enter the Beta channel in a “more stable” form on June 5, 2023, the day before the release of the next major version, Firefox 114, which will bring improved DNS over HTTPS functionality, Cookie Banner Reduced functionality and other changes.
