Firefox 100, was officially released today, bringing a host of new features and improvements, including multilingual spell checking, HDR video on Mac, and hardware-accelerated AV1 video decoding on Windows.
The major updates for Firefox 100 are as follows:
Spell Checker: The spell checker in Firefox can now use multiple dictionaries at the same time.
AV1 Codec: Hardware acceleration of the AV1 codec is enabled on Windows for supported graphics cards (Intel Gen 11+, AMD RDNA 2, GeForce 30).
Scrollbars: Scrollbars no longer take up any space and are hidden on Windows 11 and Linux, or users can manually make them visible.
SHA-256: The Firefox installer is signed with SHA-256 and no longer uses the legacy SHA-1. Windows 7 users will need to install the KB4474419 update for this to work.
HDR video: Firefox for Mac will support HDR video playback, requiring a Mac with an HDR-compatible monitor and macOS 11 or later.
Picture-in-picture mode: Displays subtitles and titles when using picture-in-picture mode, and supports WebVTT-formatted websites such as YouTube, Netflix, and Prime Video.
