Ferrari joins the bandwagon with its first EV car

0

Ferrari has disclosed its plans to manufacture its first EV by the year 2025. The company has set a target of turning carbon neutral by 2030, and within one year of launching its first EV in 2025, intends to have 60% of its line-up composed of electric and hybrid cars. It would also push back its pure combustion efforts by 40%. The current lineup is divided equally between ICE and hybrid models.

Everything of Ferrari’s first EV, right from designing, handcrafting and assembly of the car to the production of the battery pack would be carried out in a new ‘e-building’ in Maranello. The challenge would be to maintain the brand’s exclusivity as it makes the steep transition from large combustion engines to battery packs. The car would have a lower centre of weight as the batteries would interfuse with the chassis of the car. This however would also contribute to the rigidity of the car.

The Italian brand plans to derive 60% of its sales from hybrid and all-electric cars by the year 2026. Among the 15 EV designs that the company plans to roll out between 2023 and 2026, are the Prancing Horse’s first EV, a flagship ‘Supercar’ model and many belonging to the exclusive Icona series.

After Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and McLaren which have plans to turn fully electric by the end of this decade, Ferrari is the last brand of its segment to have unveiled its first EV vehicle. Though late in the race, Ferrari claims that its own EV will be a class apart in terms of its weight, sound, engine power density, and (more importantly) the emotional experience.
