Ex-employee accuses Meta Facebook of cheating users

Sina Technology, Beijing time July 7 evening news, according to reports, Facebook (Meta) former employees Brennan Lawson (Brennan Lawson) recently sued Meta, saying that he was fired because he raised some “dishonorable things” to Facebook He was fired because he questioned some “shady things” at Facebook and was then retaliated against by Facebook.

Lawson said in the suit that he joined Facebook in July 2018 and worked similarly to a Facebook content reviewer, looking at graphic content including beheadings and child sexual abuse. The lawsuit says the content Lawson and his team viewed was particularly compelling and has long drawn the attention of journalists, law enforcement and the government.

Lawson claims that Facebook introduced a protocol (algorithm) in 2019 that allowed members of his team to access Facebook Messenger data, even if that data had been deleted by the user.

Apparently, this is inconsistent with what Facebook told users. Lawson alleges in the suit, “For years, Facebook has represented to users that once content is deleted by a user, it will not remain on any Facebook servers and will be permanently deleted.”

Lawson also alleges that the algorithm was used to access user data when law enforcement requested data from Facebook on suspects. The indictment states, “In order to get Facebook in the government’s good graces, Lawson’s team would use back-end protocols to find answers for law enforcement agencies before determining how much data to share.”

Later, Lawson challenged the legality of the algorithm in a meeting. Facebook then retaliated against him and used the excuse that “Lawson’s grandmother’s Facebook account had been hacked” to fire Lawson.

Lawson’s grandmother had contacted Lawson in 2019, saying her Facebook account had been hacked. Lawson said he directed the grandmother’s case through the proper channels to recover her account. But Facebook fired him anyway, saying he failed to comply with company rules by entering his grandmother’s email address into a management tool.

Meta has not yet commented on this.
