Ericsson China announced that, under the guidance of IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Ericsson and MediaTek were the first to complete the 5G Enhanced Technology R&D Trial 5G LAN Function Technology Trial.
According to the introduction, 3GPP started to research and develop 5G LAN specifications from the R16 version, so that the 5G network can support industrial network Ethernet communication and have the capability of LAN service at the same time, and promote the support of 5G network for industrial communication.
This technical test mainly focuses on the 3GPP R16 version and includes the 5G LAN functional test and service test. The functional test mainly includes the basic functional requirements of 5G VN group management, 5G LAN PDU session management and 5G LAN user-plane management, and verifies the static management and dynamic management functions of 5G VN group, PDU session management and N4 session management, as well as the support of three different user-plane traffic forwarding methods based on UPF local communication, N6 interface communication and N19 interface communication. 5G LAN support.
In this technical trial, Ericsson provided core network and base station equipment to support 5G LAN, and MediaTek provided test terminals to support 5G LAN. Ericsson successfully completed all test items of Ethernet PDU-based 5G LAN functions, fully verifying the 5G core network support for 5G VN group management, 5G LAN PDU session management and 5G LAN user-plane management functions. At the same time, the DHCP service and multicast video playback service verified that the terminals supporting 5G LAN can realize point-to-point communication, multicast and broadcast, and can fully support the demand for LAN in vertical industry application scenarios.
Ericsson and MediaTek have worked together several times before. In August last year, MediaTek and Ericsson successfully completed a 5G millimeter wave-based quad-carrier aggregation uplink test, achieving a peak uplink rate of 495Mbps.
