Epic CEO warns Apple is either trying to crush Metaverse or squeeze all the profits out

The grievances between Epic Games and Apple, which started from the initial 30% commission dispute, have continued to expand as both companies are advancing AR/VR platforms. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney (Tim Sweeney) recently issued a warning to developers in the AR/VR field to be wary of Apple’s actions.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Sweeney said that Epic will not build another “walled garden. The “walled garden” refers to the fact that Apple has built a closed app ecosystem on iPhone and iPad devices through the App Store.

Sweeney’s translated interview as follows:

Apple is either trying to crush the meta-universe or squeeze all the profits out of it, and there is no middle ground.

Just like Apple doesn't allow you to use unofficial browser engines, Apple will require developers to use official virtual world engines, and developers can't build their own or use other engines like Unreal Engine.

Apple could even change the policy in order to achieve this goal. This is the main reason why I call for the need to strengthen antitrust laws and why we try to fight against them.
