Elon Musk says he is willing to implant brain-machine chips in his children

Elon Musk said he would not mind implanting the brain chip developed by his company Neuralink into one of his children.

Elon Musk

Elon Musk said Wednesday during a presentation on Neuralink’s latest brain-machine chip advancement that if one of his children were seriously injured, such as a broken neck, he would feel comfortable implanting the chip into their bodies.

“I would say that, at least in my opinion, the technological advances have now made this something that is not dangerous.” Elon Musk said. He expects Neuralink to begin human trials within the next six months.

Neuralink’s brain-computer interface hopes to provide a way for paralyzed patients to communicate through their minds with a brain-computer chip that has miniature wires embedded with electrodes that monitor brain activity and are designed to stimulate the brain electrically. The company plans to use a robot under development to embed such chips in a person’s skull.

Elon Musk tweeted after the Neuralink launch, “We now believe that the Neuralink device is ready for humans, so the timing of use depends on the FDA approval process.”

And, Elon Musk also said he plans to implant a brain chip himself when Neuralink’s device is ready. “You could probably implant a Neuralink device right now, you just don’t know it yet. I mean hypothetically. In the future, I will be personally involved in demonstrations.” He said.

Neuralink has not yet commented.
