Elon Musk announced the Optimus robot at the AI Day event held in August 2021. After nearly 2 years, how many Optimuses has Tesla produced so far? Elon Musk’s official response is that only 5-6 units have been produced so far.
Tesla held its Q2 2023 earnings conference call yesterday, and a retail investor asked for an update on Optimus and asked the company to disclose production information.
Elon Musk responded as follows: “I think there are only 5-6 robots at the moment. Although the number is a bit small, it will increase every month in the future. And there are so many interesting things about the Optimus robot.”
Optimus is an intelligent robot released by Tesla last year. Its design goal is to be able to perform some dangerous or boring tasks for humans, such as carrying heavy objects and purchasing groceries. Optimus is 1.8 meters tall, weighs 57 kilograms, and has a top speed of 8 kilometers per hour. It is equipped with Tesla’s self-developed neural network and computer vision technology.
