Elon Musk’s senior deputy at Tesla, Omead Afshar, is now at SpaceX after leaving Tesla this summer because of a strange internal investigation.
Afshar’s official position at Tesla was in the CEO’s office, which is Elon Musk’s chief of staff. But he’s actually been considered Elon Musk’s chief of staff since his last senior deputy, Sam Teller, left the company in 2019.
The executive, who led the construction of Tesla’s Texas mega-factory, has previously appeared frequently as a go-between for Elon Musk and his direct reports.
This summer that a report said Afshar was about to be fired by Tesla after he allegedly ordered a “special glass” for a “secret project” that was flagged as suspicious by Tesla’s finance department, prompting an internal investigation. Tesla’s internal investigation.
The reason given by Tesla for the investigation is that the employee used company resources to obtain materials for a project that may not be related to Tesla.
According to Bloomberg, Afshar has now left Tesla and has appeared at SpaceX, another company led by Elon Musk.
"Afshar has been named SpaceX vice president in charge of production of the company's starship Starship, according to two people familiar with the matter who asked not to be named. The company's official name is Space Exploration Technologies."
At present, Tesla, SpaceX, Elon Musk and Afshar have not commented on the matter. Afshar hasn’t even updated his LinkedIn profile, which still says he works for Tesla.
