Elon Musk is thinking of a monthly limit on the number of tweets viewed by free users

Elon Musk is currently making drastic changes to Twitter, including verified blue subscriptions for everyone. There are other changes that Twitter’s new boss may not talk about publicly, but he may have had internal discussions with his advisers. According to a report by technology newsletter Platformer, Elon Musk and one of his key advisers discussed limiting the number of tweets non-paying users can view each month at the meeting.

Elon Musk is still mulling the idea, which means we might see all of Twitter put behind a paywall. The site may be free for everyone for a certain time each month, after which the paywall will kick in, the report said. This effectively means that non-paying users can only view tweets during that period of time when they are not behind the paywall.

The report also said the change is currently under discussion and will take a while to be available to the public, provided Elon Musk gives the green light to the idea. Meanwhile, Twitter’s developers are currently focusing on implementing its revamped Blue subscription service, which brings people the chance to get verified by paying $8 a month.

After Elon Musk took over Twitter, many Twitter users left the platform, citing increased hate and bigotry. About 1.3 million accounts on the site have ceased activity since Elon Musk became the new owner. Many users criticized the move, as Elon Musk has previously claimed to be a “free speech absolutist.” Elon Musk has also faced fierce criticism for laying off nearly half of the company’s workforce, although he has since called back some of those laid off to the office to restore their roles at Twitter.

As things stand, the future of Twitter is pretty clear under Elon Musk’s leadership. But in the coming days, there should be more clarity on how the company will draw the line between hate speech and free speech. We may also see the company address advertisers’ concerns so they can resume advertising on the platform.
