Tesla founder Elon Musk has long harboured and funded his vision of living on Mars. For years now, SpaceX has been working on this mind bugging vision to send the first set of humans to Mars. Elon Musk has as well given a hint about the cost of a Mars trip per person in a recent statement, the billionaire stated that “anyone can save up to $100,000” to go to Mars. This vision of his puts his business (SpaceX) in direct competition with NASA, who as well are preparing to step foot on Mars. But is a trip to Mars worth the hype?
Elon Musk’s vision to set up a city on Mars is very brave and daring, and he is not afraid to point out the possible challenges that crews will face. In an interview with TED conference chairman Chris Anderson, Elon Musk boldly pointed out that crews that are to land on Mars will face a lot of challenges. In his words, “It’s important to stress that Mars (life) is not going to be lavish, especially in the beginning. It’s going to be a dangerous, very restricted, difficult, hard work.” He referred to the Mars mission as being a dangerous journey filled with uncertainties, and he also pointed out that the return of the crew that embarks on this journey is not assured.
Elon Musk’s vision to take humans to Mars is not for the faint of heart, this mission will need bold and courageous people. A journey that’ll take over a year to complete and still be filled with unknown dangers and uncertainties is undoubtedly not one most people will want to be part of.
