Elon Musk continues purge as Twitter has lost most of its sales and marketing leadership

Two more top executives have left Twitter Inc. just days after the company was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk, who has already lost much of his sales and marketing leadership. Elon Musk is now rapidly streamlining Twitter’s executive ranks in hopes of reshaping the company to fit his vision.

Chief marketing officer Leslie Berland, who joined Twitter in 2011, left on Tuesday, people familiar with the matter said. Berland was the same executive who gave Elon Musk his first tour of Twitter’s offices last week as the company finalized its $44 billion deal to buy the company.

Twitter CMO Berlan resigns

At the same time, Jean-Philippe Maheu, vice president of global customer solutions, also left Twitter. People familiar with the matter said Maheu was seen being escorted out of the company’s offices. It’s unclear whether he resigned voluntarily or was part of a broader firing by Elon Musk. Buran and Maher have not returned requests for comment.

Separately, Sarah Personette, Twitter’s chief customer officer, said she resigned on Friday and that her access to Twitter was officially cut off on Monday night. Twitter employees are now preparing for larger layoffs that could happen as early as this week after some executives spent the weekend working on a list of employees to be laid off.
