According to foreign media reports, U.S. local time on Monday, Elon Musk said Twitter will again delay the launch of the Twitter Blue V certification service “until the platform has the ability to solve the problem of impersonation accounts.
This week, Elon Musk said at a town hall meeting with Twitter employees that day that the timing of the Twitter Blue service launch was uncertain, saying, “We may or may not launch next week. But we won’t take the next step until we put an end to the recurrence of the previous major impersonation.”
Also at the meeting, he said the new system might also use different color checks to distinguish between individuals and organizations, but he gave no details, saying only that “that’s still something we’re considering.
Elon Musk’s statement comes after the social media platform suspended the relaunch of Twitter Blue. News that it would return on Nov. 29 has also been reversed.
As previously reported, Twitter launched the Twitter Blue service in early November, a feature that allowed users to pay for blue checkmarks, which were previously only available to authenticated users. At launch, however, the service led to a spate of pranksters creating impersonations of well-known accounts on Twitter, many of which were used to impersonate well-known brands, politicians and celebrities and to send out all kinds of false messages. What’s more, it led to a plunge in the share prices of certain companies, creating a chaotic situation.
