DreameBot D10 Plus Review: Powerful Two-In-One Vacuum Cleaner With A Self-Emptying Feature

Three weeks ago, I got the DreameBot D10 Plus two-in-one vacuum cleaner from DreameTech. Two-in-one as in it can vacuum and mop on its own. It has been three awesome weeks of cleaning services where I didn’t have to get involved in the process.

There are a few good vacuum cleaners out there but in my opinion, the DreameBot D10 Plus set itself apart with three features: self-emptying, a massive 5200mAh battery, and max suction power of 4000Pa.

Before we get into the review, a quick glance at the features

Unboxing And Description

The DreameBot D10 Plus came in an 18.2 x 14.9 x 17.0-inch carton box. After cutting the tape open, you first find a box containing accessories. Moving that aside, you come into contact with the main content. The complete contents of the box are:

  • The charging base
  • Disc-shaped vacuum
  • A side brush
  • A spare 2.5L vacuum bag
  • A water tank cartridge with a mop pad
  • Some documentation
  • Power cable

With a dimension of 303 × 403 × 399mm, the charging base stands out but is not too big to be tucked away under a table (which is where mine currently sits). At the top, there is an opening big enough to hold 45 days of dirt.  It is also easy to get to when it is time to take out the vacuum bag when it is time to empty it.

The robot itself has the classic disc-like shape of all vacuum machines with a diameter of about 35cm and a thickness of 9.63cm with a LIDAR sensor at the top. There are two buttons also on the top, one of which is the power button that powers the robot to begin cleaning and pausing. The other button is for docking the robot or stopping cleaning.

Setting Up

There are two levels to setting up the Dreamebot D10 Plus, the first is the physical, which is pretty easy. All you have to do is connect the cable to the charging base, and find a good corner to place it while making sure there is at least 20cm of space around it on all sides. Finally, install the side brush and remove the protective strips on the sides. And just like that, the physical part of it is done.

Next is setting up the software, which is just as easy, starting with downloading the software. Search for the “Mi Home” or “Xiaomi Home” app in your app store and follow the usual download steps. There is a shortcut using the QR code provided on the back of the quick guide.

After the download, you need to create a profile and connect the robot to your wifi again by scanning the same QR code. The whole process is easy to follow even if you are not a technical person.

Mapping

Once the signup and pairing are done, the app prompts you to map out the room. Using LiDAR and an advanced SLAM algorithm, the robot moves around your room, mapping every corner. To maximize accuracy, it is advisable to move furniture and other obstacles out of the way.

When it was done, I got a very accurate 2D map of my tiny apartment, which I then had the option to save. There is the option of creating more maps if you have more rooms and saving them separately.

The app also allows you to schedule cleanups, which is perfect for me since I am always rushing out the door early in the morning and not returning until late at night. Considering the whole purpose of a robot vacuum cleaner is to take the stress off of you, I would admit this robot nails it effortlessly.

Another feature of the app is, it allows you to track the progress of the cleanup in real-time. As cleaning is going on you also get some info such as the area cleaned (sq m), runtime, and remaining power.

Vacuuming

Starting is as simple as everything else, just tap the power button on the button or the play button on the app and the robot will hum to life.

The DreameBot has a max suction power of 4000Pa which is divided into four suction levels: Quiet, Standard, Strong, and Turbo. Quiet and Standard modes are quiet, the Strong and Turbo modes on the other hand are loud but not loud enough to disturb your music.

I used cookie crumbs, sugar, and some spices for the cleaning test on a hardwood floor. In Standard mode, it took the robot about 10 minutes to clean 7m2 of space. It is safe to say the robot sucked up about 98% of all the dirt. I don’t own any pets, but from what I have seen so far, pet hairs won’t be a problem for this robot.

I later tested the robot again but this time on Strong and Turbo and to be honest the effect is almost like using the robot in Standard mode. On these settings though you will need to accommodate two side effects: loud noise, and faster battery drainage. So I would advise sticking to the standard mode which is not only effective but is a bit easier on the battery and quieter.

Self-Emptying

One of the main selling points of the DreameBot D10 Plus is its self-emptying technology. It works exactly as it sounds, the robot is able to empty the content of the dirt cartridge on-board into the dirtbag in the charging base. Be warned, it gets really loud when it is in action.

It gets better, the dirtbag in the base is 2.5L in size, which means you only have to empty it once in every 45 days which comes to about 8 times a year. Talk about convenience.

You can also use the app to schedule how often the robot self-empties. There are options to empty after every clean or two cleaning cycles.

Mopping

To use the mop option, you will have to fill the water pad, attach the mop pad, then install the tank on the robot. Two things will happen immediately. First, the robot voice prompt will confirm the installation by saying: “Water tank has been installed.” Secondly, the mopping settings would be released in the app.

DreameBot D10 Review | Techgoing review

From the app you can choose from three mopping levels: low, medium, and high. The medium setting seems to get the job done just right. In this setting, the robot quietly moves around in a dense Z-pattern, leaving a polished floor behind it. The effect it has on the floor is similar to using a damp rug to clean a surface. And you only have to wait a few seconds for the mopped ground to dry to be able to step on it without leaving a footprint.

The timing wasn’t really different from the amount of time it took to vacuum the same space.

There are two other mopping options, which are “Deep Mopping” and “Daily Mopping”. Deep mopping increases the intensity of the mopping, and daily mopping explains itself.

FYI: The mopping feature won’t buff out tough stains and supports water-mopping only.

Software (Mi Home or Xiaomi Home )

DreameTech is a subsidiary of Xiaomi, so it is no surprise, the app that is used to control the robot comes from Xiaomi. Both Mi Home and Xiaomi Home apps are ok.

I have talked about some of the features of the apps in other sections but there is more to it. The app allows you to schedule clean-ups, track the robot, and see some data but there is more.

Main Software Page

Just on the first page of the app, you get info such as cleaning area in sq meters, runtime, and remaining battery. Then there are others such as

  • Map management allows you to mess around with the maps you have already saved. You can merge maps or remove parts of a map.
  • The Zone feature allows you to focus the robot on a particular area.
  • With the No-go Zone feature on the app, you can map out parts of your room you want the robot to avoid.

Settings

In settings, you have options for the suction levels we discussed under “Vacuuming”.

There are also other mop options. Here, there are also three options available: “Sweeping”, “Mopping”, or “Sweeping and Mopping”.

Finally, when you tap on the three dots in the top right corner, you have access to a host of options such as device settings, scheduled cleanup, cleaning history, and my personal favorite, accessory usage.

Other Features

  • Carpet boost – leverage the maximum 4000Pa suction power to thoroughly get out the most ingrained dirt in carpets
  • Voice commands – You can also connect Alexa and Google Assistant to use voice-activated commands.

Verdict

The DreameBot D10 Plus robot has a lot of things going for it. Starting with its self-emptying technology, easy-to-use app, mopping feature, and overall ease of setup. A quick review of the Pros and Cons.

Pros

  1. Overall Fantastic Performance—The DreameBot D10 Plus does what it is designed to do. It gets most of the dirt, and the self-emptying feature is perfect for every lazy being out there.
  2. The DreameBot D10 Plus’ 5200mAh battery is massive enough for multiple cleaning cycles on a single charge.
  3. Self-emptying—I really love this feature. It actually takes the whole hands-free cleaning thing to a whole new level. With this feature, you get up to 45 days of cleaning before you have to empty the dirt bag.
  4. Easy-to-use and feature-rich app
  5. Voice Notification
  6. Price – At just $499.99, this is the best value for money you can ask for

Cons

  1. Obstacles: To get the best out of the robot, you will have to move furniture, toys, and other obstacles out of its path. It also gets stuck and needs a minute or two to find its way back on track.
  2. Water Tank Installation: Installing the water tank when you want to mop undermines the idea of the robot’s autonomy. The mopping itself was as efficient as you can expect.

Recommendation

If you are someone who is too busy to get the dirt out of your house, the DreameBot D10 Plus is an easy recommendation. You can order the robot and all accessories on Amazon and DreameTech shop at just $499.99.
