According to Korean media ETNews, Apple’s upcoming OLED panel iPad Pro will be exclusively supplied by Samsung as the display driver chip (Display Driver IC, DDI).
In order to pursue diversified supply chain channels, Apple usually chooses multiple suppliers and rarely chooses a certain company to supply exclusively. Previously, it was reported that the OLED panel iPad Pro will initially have 8.5 million units in stock, of which 4 million units will be supplied by Samsung for the 11-inch model and 4.5 million units for the 12.9-inch model by LG.
Currently in the DDI market, Samsung is the number one in the industry. As of the third quarter of last year, Samsung Electronics’ DDI market share was 29.7%.

The display driver chip is an integrated circuit chip that drives displays (PDP) such as thin film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT LCD) and plasma displays.
Each pixel in the display is made up of three sub-pixels, the three primary colors of red, green, and blue (RGB). Each sub-pixel is equipped with a transistor, and the display driver chip is responsible for controlling these transistors.
The display driver chip consists of a gate driver chip and a source driver chip. The former has a switching function and can control the gate of the sub-pixel (RGB). The latter can adjust the image signal of the sub-pixel to produce color difference.
