Bend Studio, Days Gone dev announces new open-world multiplayer game

It has been a turbulent few years for the Bend Studio, after the release of Days Gone in 2019. Despite the fact that the game revolutionized the open-world genre and sold millions of copies, Sony deemed the game a failure. Average review scores weren’t much help either. The last nail in the coffin was Sony’s decision to reject the Days Gone 2 pitch. This led to some significant reshuffling for the studio. Some of the high-ranking leads decided to leave the developer, leaving fans wondering what would happen next? Well, it has been confirmed that they are working on a new IP but very little is known about the project at the moment.

At the moment, it seems like the company is going through some sort of rebranding. The company has announced a new logo via Twitter but almost nothing is known about the new IP company is developing. It was last mentioned by the CEO of PlayStation Studios, Herman Hulst in the June of last year. He said that the developers are working on a new exciting IP and they are very passionate about it. And he also mentioned that the new IP will be based on Days Gone’s open-world system.

Bend Studio, on the development of the new open-world multiplayer game

According to a PlayStation Blog post from a community specialist, Bend Studio said the following…

“We are currently working on a new IP that includes multiplayer and builds upon the open-world systems of Days Gone, but brings you a whole new world that we are extremely excited to craft for you. We cannot wait to reveal it to you when the time is right.”

However, the fans are still eagerly waiting for the news on the Days Gone sequel. The game did sell millions of copies and even ended up landing on PC. The game did make huge contributions. Despite that, Sony executives didn’t see this game as a commercial success. As expectations were high and Days Gone didn’t meet the numbers of Sony’s other big-budget IPs.

It is rumored that Sony even transferred some of the Bend Studio employees to naughty Dog. Even a team under Bend Studio is helping out with the new Uncharted game.
