Apple recently upgraded its Game Porting Toolkit, the latest version of which is 1.0.2, to further improve the ability of Mac devices to simulate running Windows games.
Apple has not officially announced the Game Porting Toolkit 1.0.2 changelog, except for the “v0.2” label on the Rosetta line in the stats panel when running the game.
The Game Porting Toolkit 1.0 version was 53.4MB in size, while the 1.0.2 version released here is only about half the size of the initial version, at 27.9 MB.
Nat Brown, the Apple engineering manager responsible for developing the toolkit, said in a post that the new version fixes overall stability, improves rendering support for 32-bit games, and further increases operational efficiency.
Brown said he had planned to write an update log, but the team members were on vacation, so it wasn’t available.
Tsai ran Elden Ring on a Mac device with the M1 Max chip and reported a 20 percent performance improvement.
The simulated running of Cyberpunk 2077 doubled the frame rate on a Mac device with the M2 Ultra chip.
Playing video with certain encoding clips outside of the game crashes in version 1.0, but mostly works fine in version 1.0.2.
