Beginning in 1982, Corsa has been a truly global car for the last four decades being manufactured in Germany, Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, South Africa, Egypt, China and India. It was known by the name Holden Barina in Australia and New Zealand, Chevrolet Chevy in Mexico, Chevrolet and Buick Sail in China and Opel Vita in Japan. Today, in celebrating the car’s 40th birthday, Vauxhall is releasing the Anniversary Edition Corsa-e.
Forty years ago, Opel Corsa was a fitting reply to the VW Polo and Ford Fiesta that dominated the roads in those days. Opel Kadett shrunken in a stylized way, Corsa was an immediate success with great many sales. Now, 44cms taller than the original version, the new version comes in an all-electric design to spearhead a new era for the Corsa legacy.
Corsa-e: Exterior looks
The car carries some new paintwork in Record Red that is inspired from the original Carmine Red introduced in 1982. The car has an overall sporty look that is complete with the badges on the car and the front grille painted in gloss black. The glossy black hue is also carried by the roof of the car. The 17” alloys bear matte gray inserts.
Corsa-e: Interior looks
The interiors thoughtfully carry the plaid upholstery that was a regular theme in European cars of the 1980s. Every car in this limited edition will sport on the dashboard an Anniversary badge individually numbered from 0001 to 1982. The 7” central screen is the same as the GS Line along with DAB radio and digital instrument cluster.
The vehicle offers standard driver assistance features with lane departure, sign recognition and emergency braking. Aiding the front and rear parking sensors is also a reversing camera.
Being manufactured in limited numbers, the car will carry a hefty price tag of GBP 31,000 ($37,930). Back then, 14 million units of the original Opel City car were sold.
