Codename Raptor Canyon: Intel NUC 13 Extreme Roadmap Exposed

Earlier on Tuesday, Reddit user u/Lukedriftwood posted an updated Intel NUC roadmap that was retweeted by well-known tipster @Harukaze5719. The most intriguing ones are the “Raptor Canyon” NUC 13 Extreme with Raptor Lake processors, and the “Shrike Bay” Compute Element. The Raptor Canyon NUC 13 Extreme and the Shrike Bay Compute Element.

We already knew that Intel was scheduled to release the 13th generation of Raptor Lake desktop processors later this year, but now it looks like the company is also planning to launch a new generation of NUC 13 Extreme mini PCs at the same time.

First, the next-generation NUC 13 product is codenamed “Raptor Canyon,” apparently the same generational nomenclature as the “Raptor Lake” processors.

Secondly, consumers will be able to choose from the unclocked -K series CPUs, including the Core i9-13900K, i7-13700K and i5-13600K.

In addition, the next-generation NUC 13 will support full-length PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, complemented by a 13.9 L chassis size.

Although Intel can’t help but advertise its own Arc graphics, consumers can also choose AMD / NVIDIA graphics cards.

Incidentally, the Raptor Canyon Mini PC also includes the latest NUC 13 Extreme “Compute Element” – codenamed “Shrike Bay” and typically supports the full range of -K and -KF chips.

Considering that they will use the same compatible slots as the desktop SKUs, it will be interesting to see how backward compatible it is with the 12th generation Alder Lake CPUs and the previous generation “Eden Bay” Compute Element.

Finally, Intel plans to launch the next-generation NUC 13 Extreme mini PC in Q4 2022, which means that Raptor Lake desktop CPUs are sure to ship before then as well (say by the end of Q3).
