Cinnamon 5.8 Desktop Environment Released Support For Gesture, Dark Mode and More

The Cinnamon 5.8 desktop environment was officially released and users can upgrade it through the stable software repository of Arch Linux.

One of the highlights of the Cinnamon 5.8 desktop environment is the support for XDG Desktop Portal, which improves the compatibility support for Flatpak applications and GNOME / libadwaita applications.

This feature also brings a global dark mode setting for apps that support this feature, with three options: Prefer light, Prefer dark, and “Determine by app.”

Another great new feature in Cinnamon 5.8 is the support for gestures on touchpads, touchscreens, and tablets. These gestures can be used for window management, workspace management, tiling, and media controls.

Cinnamon 5.8 also introduces a new concept called “Styles” to make your desktop environment look great. Each style has three modes: mixed, dark and light, and can use the theme color.
