China Unicom plans to invest nearly RMB 100 billion in infrastructure construction

According to China Unicom’s Hong Kong Stock Exchange announcement, as of February 2023, China Unicom had reached 219.76 million 5G package users and 887.328 million “Big Connect” users, including 406.560 million IoT terminal connections.

Liu Liehong, Chairman of China Unicom, delivered a speech at the 2023 China Development Forum. He said that in the face of the new opportunities brought by the new round of technological revolution and industrial change, digital networked intelligence has become a key path to promote the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy.

According to the introduction, China Unicom currently has 1.17 million 5G base stations, accounting for about 30% of the world. China Unicom will accelerate the construction of digital information infrastructure represented by 5G, continuously improve the level of 5G network coverage, and build a digital base for the integration of the digital economy and the real economy.

He said China Unicom plans to invest nearly RMB 100 billion in 5G and other infrastructure construction and technological innovation this year, further driving the upstream and downstream of the industry chain to generate greater spillover and multiplier effects.

Liu Liehong also said: the current 6G technology in the early research stage, by 2025 will launch 6G application scenarios, complete 6G early technology research, to 2026 to open the 6G technology engineering research stage, is expected to 6G in 2030 to promote the commercial scale of the stage.
