ChatGPT for iOS integrates with Bing search, paid subscribers only

In May, OpenAI released the ChatGPT app for iOS, which has been updated with many new features, including support for Siri shortcuts. Today the app has introduced another new feature that integrates with Microsoft’s Bing search engine, but this feature is only available to paid users.

According to the app’s update notes, ChatGPT Plus subscribers can enable a new feature called “Browse” that combines GPT-4 and Bing search. When this feature is turned on, ChatGPT can give “comprehensive answers and up-to-date insights into events and information that go beyond the model’s initial training data.” In other words, this means that ChatGPT can use Bing search networking to give more accurate answers based on the latest data.

It should be noted that ChatGPT was trained based on data prior to September 2021 and has no knowledge of events that have occurred since then, but the integration with Bing solves this problem and a similar integration is already available in the web version of ChatGPT. It is worth noting that Microsoft invested billions of dollars in OpenAI earlier this year. As a result, Bing has become the default search engine for ChatGPT, and OpenAI’s generative AI is built into the Microsoft Edge browser and is part of Bing.

To enable this new Bing-based feature, users need to find the “Browsing” option in the “What’s New” section and make sure to switch to the GPT-4 model. The ChatGPT app for iOS can be downloaded for free from the App Store, and some features require a subscription to ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 per month (currently about RMB 145) and is available in more than 40 regions worldwide.
