CES 2024: Kia PV5 Platform Beyond Vehicle concept debuts

CES 2024 opened in Las Vegas, USA. Kia announced three PBV concept models at this exhibition-PV1, PV5 and PV7. The PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) product series will focus on the commercial market and use skateboard chassis. The first model to be launched will be the mid-size PV5, which will provide a range of body styles for users to choose from. It is planned to be put into production at the PBV factory in South Korea in 2025.

Kia officially launched its global PBV business at CES 2024 and introduced its future PBV product lineup and business vision, including hardware technologies such as Easy Swap and Dynamic Hybrid modular technology, and new digital solutions developed based on Hyundai Motor Group’s software research and development capabilities. and the Global Partnership Integration Plan, among others. The term PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) literally translates to “beyond vehicle architecture.” Kia PBV is an all-round mobility solution that combines dedicated electric vehicles with advanced software solutions to open the door to future travel life.

Taking the PV5 as an example, the car’s flexible chassis will have a fixed cab or “driver’s area.” Behind it is the flexibly replaceable body or “life module”, which is connected to the body through several mechanical couplings and several electromagnetic fixed points, becoming the PV5 pickup version, high-top version, R version and basic version, each Each “life module” will be shipped as a standard kit.

Like the exterior, the seats and storage compartments in the “living module” will be removable and removable, allowing the delivery van to be quickly converted into a taxi.

Kia didn’t reveal much about the PV1 and PV7, but said the latter will be the largest in the PBV lineup and will offer “amazing range.” Meanwhile, the PV1 will be the smallest model, designed for cities and other tight spaces. Karim Habib, Kia’s global head of design, said: “Kia PBV will create a new solution that seamlessly connects business activities and lifestyle.” “We hope to make users’ lives easier and better, whether they are at rest or on the road, Kia All will provide users with full flexibility and customization solutions through thorough modularity.”

In order to make the use of these vehicles more efficient, Kia plans to develop a dedicated business software to help users manage their vehicles. As a solar-powered vehicle, Kia will also use artificial intelligence technology to provide predictive maintenance recommendations and charging plans tailored to each customer’s needs. Kia plans to build a dedicated PBV factory in South Korea, which is expected to be put into operation in 2025 with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
