CanonRumors confirmed that the Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM may be launched in the fourth quarter or in the first quarter of 2024 before the Canon EOS R1.

According to reports, Canon EF 500mm f / 4L IS USM II will be a zoom lens for RF mount, although it will not be equipped with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter, but don’t worry, Canon RF 100-300mm f / 2.8L IS USM and the Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM would both have a nice teleconverter solution, and it would add an extra 100mm of focal length to compensate.
Canon wanted to make this lens as light as possible, and having a built-in teleconverter would have added weight and size.
