“Call of Duty” senior designer David Vonderhaar, known for his “Black Ops” series, recently announced that he chose to leave after working for Activision for 18 years.

Vonderhaar worked on a total of eight Call of Duty games during his tenure as design director at Treyarch, starting with the original game in 2003. While he is best known for his work on the Black Ops franchise, he led the development of various campaigns, multiplayer modes, and systems.

In announcing his departure on Friday, Vonderharr said he would take on another undisclosed role in the games industry. “Today I’m sharing that after an incredible 18 years and eight Call of Duty games, I’m leaving Activision and Treyarch,” he wrote on his LinkedIn page.

From the statement that Vonderharr revealed: “I will stay in the game industry and work on an undisclosed project that I cannot discuss yet, but I am excited about a rare and unique opportunity. I will inform you as soon as possible Update.”
