Cadillac’s ultra-luxury electric car Celestiq has officially begun mass production, more than a year has passed since its October 2022 official debut. According to the latest report from US automotive media GM Authority, the first batch of limited edition Celestiq has begun to be hand-assembled at the GM Global Technology Center in Warren, Michigan, with annual production expected to be between 100 and 150 units.
The Celestiq’s starting price is about $340,000 (Note: currently about 2,448,000 RMB), and despite the steep price tag, Cadillac says the Celestiq sold out last December, with orders lined up for 18 months. Cadillac has spared no expense by offering a wide range of customization options for the Celestiq, even allowing customers to make any personalized requests, in keeping with its “never say no to a customer request” principle.
The Celestiq is based on GM’s BEV3 platform and Ultium EV architecture, which it shares with models like the GMC Hummer EV and Honda Prologue. The ultra-luxury electric sedan features a 111kWh battery pack and twin electric motors that produce 600 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph (~97 km/h) in 3.8 seconds.
In terms of range, the Celestiq has a range of up to 300 miles (approximately 482.8 km) on a single charge. Using the 200kW DC fast-charging system, 78 miles (125.53 kilometers) of range can be replenished in just 10 minutes.
Delivery dates for the first Celestiq have not yet been set, but are expected to begin this year. With the start of production, the Celestiq will compete with the Rolls-Royce Spectre EV in the ultra-luxury electric sedan market.
