In the latest batch of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology declaration catalog, the new BYD Song PLUS DM-i was officially unveiled and probably will be named Song PLUS DM-i 2023 Champion Edition. Like the Song EV, the new car can also be equipped with the “Frigate 05” badge.
The front and rear of the car have changed a lot, especially the front end, which has changed the design language of the BYD Ocean Net series, and the air intake grille has changed to a horizontal-spoke borderless style. The rear end is basically the same as the EV version, giving a more refined and refreshed feeling overall.
The new model measures 4,775 mm x 1,890 mm x 1,670 mm, an increase of 7 cm in length and a decrease of 1 cm in height compared to the current model’s 4,705 mm x 1,890 mm x 1,680 mm. The wheelbase remains the same as the current model, at 2,765 mm.
The A+ SUV is equipped with 18-, 19- and 20-inch tires and has an overall weight of 1,830 kg and a top speed of 170 km/h.
Power is the same as the current model, the Song PLUS DM-i is equipped with BYD Super Hybrid system, still using the 1.5L Snapdragon engine with a maximum power of 81 kW, and the front motor with a maximum power of 145 kW to form the DM-i hybrid system, and equipped with lithium iron phosphate blade battery.
Some media pointed out that this model is also the Frigate 05 of Ocean.com, based on the Song Plus full revision and upgrade, new HUD head-up display, new gearshift area, support for two cell phones at the same time wireless charging, crystal gear lever and so on.
The two models of the Song PLUS have been listed in the classification of the Ocean family on BYD’s website, and it seems that this change is in line with the unified design of the family.
