NVIDIA announced that starting next year, BYD, the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, will use the NVIDIA Drive Orin centralized computing platform in its full range of vehicles, further expanding the use of DRIVE Orin in multiple models of its Dynasty and Ocean series vehicles to bring safer and smarter vehicles to market.

Both NVIDIA and BYD believe that the future of the automobile will be programmable, evolving from being based on many embedded controllers to high-performance centralized computers — with software updates to deliver and enhance functionality throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.
The DRIVE Orin is described as the most powerful automotive processor on the market today and has been the AI engine of choice for the industry’s next generation of new energy vehicles, robotic cabs, shuttles and trucks since it went into production last year.
The first choice of automakers for the 2022 production schedule, NVIDIA DRIVE Orin includes.
Up to 21 billion transistors
Integrated NVIDIA Ampere GPU architecture
12 Cortex-A78 ARM 64 CPUs
Deep learning and computer vision gas pedal
Can deliver 254 trillion operations per second performance
It’s worth noting that BYD also announced earlier this year that it will enhance the in-car experience by introducing NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud gaming services.
