Browser turns into an intelligent assistant: Microsoft 365 Copilot is coming to Edge

Microsoft announced today at its Build 2023 developer conference that its artificial intelligence assistant Copilot will be coming to the Edge browser to provide users with a more convenient work experience. copilot can complete tasks of other software based on the content of the website users are browsing, such as in Office documents, Outlook mail, etc. Microsoft 365 Copilot covers.

For example, if you’re a salesperson browsing a prospect’s website, you can ask Copilot in the Edge browser for everything you need to know about that customer, including previous meetings, emails and chats. copilot can also help you reply to emails from your boss asking about the customer’s progress based on the information you’re viewing.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is Microsoft’s comprehensive office digital assistant, powered by OpenAI. It’s similar to the classic Clippy assistant, but this time Copilot can actually help you draft content suitable for sending to colleagues or add data to documents.

Copilot in the Edge browser is available in the browser’s sidebar and can be used at any time while you browse the web. As with other Copilot instances, you simply interact with a Bing AI-like dialog box and instruct it to do something in natural language.

In a new blog post, Lindsay Kubasik, product manager for Microsoft’s Edge Enterprise Group, describes some examples of Microsoft 365 Copilot in Edge:

You can enter a natural language request, such as "Tell my team how we updated our product strategy today," and Microsoft 365 Copilot will generate a status update based on the morning's meeting, email and chat threads. Combined with Edge, Microsoft 365 Copilot becomes more intuitive, providing better answers by tracking the context of what you're viewing in your browser. For example, when you view a document shared by a colleague, you simply ask, "What are the key takeaways from this document?"

In addition, Microsoft’s Enterprise Data Protection extension to Microsoft Edge for Business will become the standard browser for organizations using Azure AD. Edge for Business can protect corporate data and block personal data by providing a separate window with a separate Web cache to automatically separate work browsing from personal browsing content syncing back to the company.

Microsoft also made other Edge-related announcements, including the launch of Edge Workspaces, a feature that supports tabbed collaboration, in the coming months and now supports Edge sidebar app development — which helps make progressive Web apps work better with your browsing experience. edge will also support the new Microsoft 365 Copilot plug-ins that enable the experience of people interacting with apps using chatbot prompts.

Currently, Microsoft 365 Copilot is currently only available as a private preview and must be used with an Azure AD-based work account. With the addition of Edge, this account requirement remains unchanged “to meet existing commitments to enterprise data security and privacy.”
