Pure EV battery blast

This is the second incidence in less than a week in the Telugu states. The incident led to the death of an 80-year-old man and injuries of two others on April 22 in Telangana’s Nizamabad district. This was because of the detonation of the battery pack of an electric two-wheeler. The charging of the battery pack in a dwelling led to the incident.

The incident led to the death of B. Ramaswamy. His son B. Prakash, as well as his daughter Kamalamma, sustained burn injuries while attempting to rescue him. The police initiated a charge against Pure EV per Indian Penal Code Section 304A (causing death by negligence) and launched an investigation.

Pure EV issued a statement expressing its sincere regret for the episode and reiterating that it is working in conjunction with local officials and obtaining additional information from the user. A spate of such accidents in the country has raised concerns about battery safety. In separate events in recent times, three Pure EV scooters and several other manufacturers’ electric vehicles went up in flames.
