BMW’s xDrive 30 launches as an all-electric version of i3

BMW’s all-new X1 lineup gets to have its newest member as the company’s all-electric xDrive 30 becomes official. It seems BMW wants to come up with an all-electric version of each of its cars that presently plying on the roads. The xDrive 30 is the all-electric reincarnation of the once futuristic and revolutionary i3. The all-electric xDrive 30 joins the X1 line-up that also includes ICE and plug-in, hybrid models.

BMW xDrive 30: exterior looks

Beefier than ever before, sporting a front with a larger and more squarish kidney grille and a bellicose bonnet. As would be stereotypical of an SUV, the wheel arches have been squared off. Though difficult to fathom, BMW claims the car has a “dynamically stretched silhouette.

BMW xDrive 30: interiors

Within the car is a dual-screen infotainment system that offers a 10.25-inch information display (along with the control cluster) and a 10.7-inch middle control display. A central console that is floating controls the iDrive 8 system and a gear selector. A wireless charging console integrates wireless smartphone control.

Both axles have been gifted with an electric motor, and the car comes in a single xDrive30 configuration. Slated for the near future is also a front-wheel-drive variant. A 64.7kWh usable capacity of its battery would offer a WLTP range of up to a whopping 438km. Together, the two batteries punch out an output of 230kW (313hp) and 494nm (364 lb-ft) of torque. The xDrive 30 can race from 0 to 100km in 5.7 seconds and can reach an optimum speed of 180km/h (112mph).

BMW xDrive 30: charging features

The xDrive 30 holds a DC charging capacity of up to 130kW and the charging can be as fast as going from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes. In terms of range, this would add 120km in just 10 minutes of having the car plugged in. At-home AC charging can add 11kW in six and a half hours or an optional 22kW that reduces the time to just below four hours. Add to this an installed heat pump to optimize efficiency.

The xDrive 30 will launch along with the new third-generation X1, which will offer two petrol and two diesel engine choices before a pair of plug-in hybrids and two mild-hybrids launch later. Though there has been no word on the price, it is expected to start at Є50,000.
